What causes a pothole?
Potholes are formed when water seeps into the surface and freezes. The expansion of the freezing process creates cracking to the surface, these cracks deteriorate over time and vehicle weight. Once thawed voids, caused by the evaporated water, collapse due to the weight and volume of traffic creating a pot hole at the surface.
The voids created are a clear reason why a pothole must be repaired correctly to avoid increasing the size of the problem, including areas surrounding, simply filling a pothole is not the solution.
As the UK braces for wintery showers and freezing temperatures throughout our winter season it is important sites monitor there surfaces for cracking and potholes, maintaining a safe, compliant site for staff and visitors.
