OUTCO Moss removal techniques

OUTCO uses a variety of techniques to remove moss from your facility, tailored to the specific problem:

Physical Moss Removal

One of the simplest ways we eliminate moss is using physical removal. This method involves manually detaching the moss from the surface using tools such as a brush, hoe, or rake. By physically dislodging the moss, we clear the affected area and discourage its regrowth. Physical removal is particularly useful for smaller areas or when dealing with delicate surfaces.

Chemical Moss Removal

An effective method for moss removal is the use of moss killers or biocides. Our specialised solutions contain active ingredients that target and kill the moss. After applying the moss killer, the moss gradually dies off, making it easier to remove. This method is effective for larger areas or when dealing with persistent moss growth. This method is more effective than physical removal for larger areas of moss, but it can be harmful to the environment if not done properly using professional services.

Moss Removal using Heat

Heat removal involves the use of heat to eliminate moss. This method often utilises a heat gun or steam cleaner, which applies intense heat to the moss-infested area. The high temperature effectively kills the moss, making it easier to scrape or brush away. Heat removal is particularly useful for moss growing between cracks or in hard-to-reach areas. This method is effective for both small and large areas of moss, and it is less harmful to the environment than chemical removal.

Environmentally friendly moss removal options

With moss removal, according to client request, OUTCO will consider environmentally-friendly moss removal methods as well as more traditional methods such as herbicides. Such alternatives can prioritise the health of your surroundings while effectively addressing your moss issues. Some of our environmentally friendly options at your disposal for moss removal include:

Natural Vinegar: White vinegar can be a useful natural remedy for moss removal. By mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water in sprayers and applying it to the affected area, moss can be curtailed. After allowing the vinegar solution to sit for a while, we gently scrub or brush off the dead moss. This method is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

Baking Soda: Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, can be used as an alternative to chemical moss killers. We can mix baking soda with water to create a paste and apply it to the moss-infested area. We will allow it to sit for a while, then rinse it off and manually remove the moss. Baking soda is a safe and natural option that does not harm the environment.

Increased Sunlight and Airflow: Moss thrives in damp and shaded areas. By increasing sunlight exposure and improving airflow, moss growth will be discouraged. We would trim back overhanging branches or foliage that may be blocking sunlight and promote better air circulation. This method helps create an environment less favourable for moss to grow.

Prevention Techniques: Using OUTCO to take proactive measures to prevent moss growth can be the most environmentally friendly approach. We will ensure proper drainage to avoid excessive moisture retention, trim back vegetation to allow sunlight in, and regularly clean surfaces prone to moss growth. These preventive measures can help minimise the need for intensive moss removal.

It is important to note that while these methods are environmentally friendly, they may require more effort and time compared to chemical treatments. Additionally, the effectiveness of these methods may vary depending on the severity of the moss infestation.
